French darkgazers Pam Risourie are in it for the long haul, if only for their inherent need to create a world of their own through wraithlike sonic textures. “I think it’s not so much about a choice or a goal, rather than a visceral need, to create and make art. I don’t necessarily think that far, in terms of goals, because the act of creation requires to be anchored in the present, and is sometimes the only thing that makes you feel like you’re here.” The Parisian quintet has been roiling out their ethereal vision since 2019’s EP Rituals. Since then, they have been unstoppable in their commitment to blending niche genres of 90’s-era shoegaze with more contemporary post-rock persuasions. What separates Pam Risourie from the pack? Beehype said it best regarding their brilliant 2020 EP Noctessa: “They could have lost themselves into unnecessary drones, experimentations or reverb, as shoegaze is sometimes (at its worst) assimilated with some kind of a ‘poseur’ attitude. But this cultural legacy is nicely balanced and never covers the songwriting qualities.” Their 2021 record So Be it Eternity was met with similar doting sentiments from Thoughts Words Actions: “The recording contains five soothing, relaxing, cathartic, melodic, harmonious compositions, but the group offers more than a regular dream-pop sound…It perfectly suits the reverby, echoic, delayed aesthetics of the band, but you will also notice this band doesn’t stop there.”
The band are back with another potent dose of their melancholic aura, You Are the Sound which is slated for release on March 17th 2023. Mastered by Simon Scott of the legendary Slowdive, the band has honed their focus and crafted their own sound, and it shows to be their best work yet. The album will see international vinyl/cassette release backed by Pyrrhic Victory Recordings (US), Icy Cold Records (FR), Stellar Frequencies (FR), and Araki Records (FR).
Gearing up for the release, the band put out their interpretation of Rihanna’s hit “Umbrella” in November. On December 19th 2022, the album’s first single will be released via all digital platforms, which includes a captivating YouTube visualizer, celebrating a new era for this up-and-coming outfit of poignant songwriters.
Other future plans include a recorded live session through French label Stellar Frequencies in February 2023 and a release party which has yet to be announced.
