> 1983-Bergen County NJ: As punk wound down and “new wave” gathered momentum, the innovators of these newly disparate disciplines had either self-destructed, began to hone their sound for more commercial appeal, or were content to just tread water for rent money and drugs. In the midst of this, The Systum formed with the intent of mixing the mental gymnastics of The Doors with the sound of the punk innovators. As expected (at least in retrospect), this achieved artistic but not commercial success.
> 1986-Ditto on the location: Out of the ashes of The Systum, founding members John Steele and Frankie Fender formed Voice of Doom, an experiment in a punk/metal hybrid form influenced by early metal masters Black Sabbath, as well as Motorhead, and the punk inspired Black Flag. Steele moved from trap to vox/guitar and assumed songwriting duties for the new sound. Other members were then sought to complete the unit. VOD’s revolving door of bassists and drummers included monster artist London May (Samhain/Dag Nasty) who joined prior to VOD recording their only release, a four song EP in extremely limited blue vinyl pressing entitled "Faith Is Torn" that sells for several Benjamins today. In 1989, VOD was abandoned and the Steele/Fender duo formed Nasty Ammunition.
> 2014-Somewhere in NJ: At the 25th anniversary of their demise, VOD reunites for a five song EP, this time with early punk influences as their sole inspiration. Bassist Ricky Blades returns, who also laid tracks on VOD's “Faith Is Torn”. Drummer Karl C. Scott assumes trap duties, with former Nasty Ammunition/Holeshot bandmate EvilHeim (aka the REAL Voice of Doom) on lead vox
> 2015/2016-Swamps of NJ: VOD returns to the studio sporting a new (but familiar) power packed rhythm section to record an online release of two Misfits covers for Halloween 2015 and to complete a four song EP titled "Scared to Death" slated for 3-1-16 release.
> Halloween 2016 - VOD continues to unleash new music with the new 6 song attack "Screams In Space", available in CD/MP3 format as well as Limited Edition soon to be available picture lathe cut 5".
>Halloween 2018 - VOD returns for Halloween 2018 with "Toxic Swamp" b/w "Lost Highway" on swamp green vinyl!
>April 2020 - VOD returns (yet again) with their first full length "Saint Blaise" described by Big Takeover as "they sound like a Misfits and Damned lovechild...Heim adopts a Jim Morrison-like growl, giving them a Black Sabbath-meets-The Cult blues-metal and goth crunch. Either way, they’re flat out pulverizing."
