You’re on a bicycle, riding the sunrise back home from a long night out. Pinks and blues, you feel it all. Nothing before or after this matters. The breeze whispers, “you must remember and not be deceived, you are always alone and no one really needs you.” Actually, that’s Lola’s summation of the new Joobie Seaz single “Something New,” and that’s exactly the kind of candy-coated nihilism the song makes us feel. The French dreampop duo has combined forces yet again to channel their own lofi brand of glossy grime on this trip-hop/Rough Trade-inspired single. It’s been incredible to see Alex and Lola hone their craft into what it’s become, and that’s exactly why Pyrrhic Victory Recordings is stoked to be releasing their best work yet on February 3rd 2023.
“The song sounds like a mental disorder, like a bipolar disorder,” said Lola, adding, “not in the sense of a disease, but as a reminder of why we need to remain calm and self-sufficient.” In less than three minutes, Joobie Seaz takes us on a ride through Blue Screen Life-era Pinback to Portishead and back, showcasing Lola’s airy and ethereal voice through potent pop melodies. The duo has been cranking out singles since the pandemic and hasn’t stopped. They’ve garnered a loyal following over the years and we are stoked to announce their first collaboration with Pyrrhic Victory. Hop on and ride with us before the sun comes up.
